The Revitalization Project for Fishing Villages is a competitive project carried out by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries to improve the living and economic environment of fishing villages and to encourage new personnel to settle in these areas. This project is divided into three types, and Myeongji Port in Gangseo-gu has been selected for the 'Improvement of Fishing Village Safety Infrastructure' type.

The support details for each type are as follows. First, the fishing village economic platform creation project aims to revitalize the local fishing economy and provides up to 30 billion won in funding. Second, the fishing village living platform construction project focuses on improving the living environment of fishing villages and provides up to 10 billion won in funding. Lastly, the fishing village safety infrastructure improvement project offers up to 5 billion won for maintaining port facilities and enhancing safety.

This project is expected to contribute to the development of fishing villages and improve the quality of life for residents.

A total investment of 3 trillion won is planned from 2023 to 2030. In 2025, 25 regions across the country will be selected, and Myeongji Port in Gangseo-gu is among them.

In the Gyeongnam region, Sacheon City, Samcheongpo Port (Shinhyang Port) was chosen for the fishing village economic platform creation type, and Yeonhwa Port in Tongyeong City was selected for the fishing village living platform creation type. Additionally, Changchon Port in Geoje City and Yongho Port in Goseong-gun were selected for the fishing village safety infrastructure creation type.

This project is expected to contribute to the revitalization of the local economy and the development of fishing villages.

Overview of the Myeongji Port Project

Myeongji Port in Gangseo-gu required aging essential fishing and safety facilities due to a long-term lack of investment in infrastructure that threatened resident safety. To address this, the port participated in this competitive project and was selected.

The project duration is set for three years, from 2025 to 2027, with a total project budget of 4.36 billion won, including 3 billion won from national funds, 392 million won from city funds, and 916 million won from district funds.

The main project components include securing a material dock (774㎡), renovating the aging seawall (L=465m), installing fishing gear storage (200㎡ × 2 buildings), and ensuring the safety of vessel navigation. Through such initiatives, Myeongji Port's safety and functionality are expected to see significant improvements.

Busan's Fishing Village Development Policy

Since 2019, Busan has been actively promoting the 'Fishing Village New Deal 300 Project,' investing a total of 79.3 billion won in nine fishing ports. Starting in 2023, the ministry is implementing the 'Revitalization Project for Fishing Villages' in the Mundong area of Gijang-gun. With Myeongji Port's selection, Busan plans to further strengthen the sustainability of urban fishing villages.

This project aims to improve Myeongji Port’s outdated facilities, prevent disasters, and enhance the quality of life for local residents. Busan city intends to continue its support to create 'vibrant fishing villages that people want to live in.'
