Busan, Recommended Forest Experiences with Children… Strengthening Forestry Welfare Services
Busan City announced that it will strengthen forestry welfare services so that citizens can learn, enjoy, and heal in the forest.
To this end, customized programs for various age groups and socio-economic strata will be operated, and particularly, the creation of Kids' Forest Experience Centers and Forest Experience Education Centers will be expanded.
Through these efforts, the plan is to support citizens in easily accessing nature within their living areas.
Main Forest Experience Attractions and Programs in Busan
Busan City operates customized forest education programs at a total of 47 forest experience centers, including Haeundae Arboretum, Hwamyung Arboretum, and Daeyeon Arboretum Exhibition Center.
These programs are categorized by age and theme, providing citizens with various experiential opportunities and thus contributing to the improvement of citizens' quality of life.
At Haeundae Arboretum, Hwamyung Arboretum, and Daeyeon Arboretum, customized educational programs for families and groups are being offered.
Additionally, the Youth Experience Forest is expanding opportunities for various forest experience activities for youth. In the Busan Healing Forest, programs for stress relief and mental health recovery for adults are provided.
District experience centers are also expanding forest experiences for toddlers and socially vulnerable groups. Finally, special events such as the Busan Forest Experience Festival, Children's Day, and summer vacation forest interpretation programs are also planned.
Eulsukdo Kids' Forest Experience Center Begins Full Operation
The Eulsukdo Kids' Forest Experience Center, completed last year, will begin full operation from April. This space is designed as a nature-friendly area equipped with an educational deck, wooden play facilities, and shelter (rest facilities), providing a safe and free environment for toddlers to explore nature.
Eulsukdo is connected to various cultural, artistic, and ecological experience facilities such as the Nakdong River Estuary Eco Center, Busan Museum of Modern Art, and Eulsukdo Cultural Center. This is expected to transform the area into a cultural arts hub where everyone, from toddlers to seniors, can enjoy together.
Additions of Kids' Forest Experience Centers in Saha-gu, Yeongdo-gu, and Gijang-gun
Busan City plans to create new Kids' Forest Experience Centers in Saha-gu, Yeongdo-gu, and Gijang-gun to provide various forest experiences throughout the seasons.
The design service will be completed by May 2025, and construction will be completed in August, aiming to operate from September. Through the experience programs that will be operated throughout the year, continuous opportunities for forest education will be provided.
Sasang Forest Experience Education Center, Scheduled for Completion in 2026
The Sasang Forest Experience Education Center, where future generations and adults can enjoy together, will be established on a 2.8 ha site within Sasang Neighborhood Park. This space is designed to allow people to feel nature and relax in the urban area, including forest trails and experiential facilities.
Construction will commence in June 2024, with completion scheduled for December 2026. This place will offer space to experience forest and wood culture while enjoying comfortable relaxation in the city.
Expansion of Forestry Welfare Services and Activation of Citizen Participation
In April, Busan City will hold training for Kids' Forest stakeholders to share the direction of forest policy regarding various social issues such as climate change response and the transition to a carbon-neutral city. Moreover, there are plans to actively gather citizens' opinions.
In the future, Busan City will focus on building forest welfare infrastructure that easily connects citizens with nature within their living areas. Various programs will be prepared for citizens to experience learning and healing in the forest simultaneously.
