Sacheon Seong Sang Ji Observatory Tower to Establish Itself as a Landmark

Sacheon City is promoting new projects to develop Seong Sang Ji as a tourism resource and to utilize it as a venue for ecological and environmental education. In particular, the Seong Sang Ji Observatory Tower is planned to be constructed near the Sacheon Bridge, with a height of 54m and a scale of one underground floor and three above-ground floors.

Each floor of the observatory tower will be structured as follows: The underground level will house the machinery room, storage, and common areas; the first floor will contain a ticket office, exhibition facilities, and a small café. The second floor will be utilized as a digital exhibition zone and a multi-purpose resting area, while the third floor will feature an observation deck overlooking the scenic beauty of Sacheon Bay and Seong Sang Ji.

In addition, plans are in place to create resting areas and tour routes around the observatory tower, including a well tour route utilizing agricultural heritage. A total budget of 18.73 billion won is expected to be invested in this project. Through this, Sacheon City hopes to realize the importance of both regional tourism activation and ecological education.

The area where the observatory tower is located boasts excellent connectivity with existing major tourist sites and features nearby attractions such as Turtle Ship Village and the Rainbow Coastal Road. In particular, it connects to the Lee Soon Shin Victory Night Pilgrimage Route spanning 12.5km from Seong Jin Riverside Park to Mochung Park, leading to expectations that the observatory tower will become a new center of regional tourism.

A city official stated, "Once this project is completed, it will become a tourist attraction where one can experience and learn about the historical value and natural scenery of Sacheon Seong Sang Ji," adding that "It will play an important landmark role in the revitalization of Sacheon City tourism alongside the Sacheon Sea Cable Car and Aramaru Aquarium." The opening of the observatory tower is anticipated to have a positive impact on local tourism.

The 'Sacheon Seong Sang Ji Theme Tourism Attraction Development Project' officially started after being selected as a finalist in the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's 'Southern Region Comprehensive Tourism Development Plan' competition.

Seong Sang Ji refers to a fan-shaped sedimentary landform formed by a river flowing from a mountainous area to a lowland. It is particularly recognized as a representative seong sang ji of Korea due to its distinct shape and high academic and scenic value, located in the Judum-ri area of Yonghyeon-myeon in Sacheon City.

This project is expected to play an important role in revitalizing local tourism.

Sacheon Growing as a Tourism Hub for Busan and Gyeongnam

This observatory tower project is an important initiative to develop Sacheon City as a tourism center for the southern region.

In particular, there is a strong opinion that continuous development of tourism infrastructure centered around Sacheon City is necessary. If new tourist attractions are created through connections with existing tourist sites, it is expected that this will provide an opportunity for Sacheon to become a representative tourism base for Busan and Gyeongnam.
