Busan City Integrates Transportation Vulnerable Taxi Operations Starting in April
Busan City plans to pilot a new integrated transportation service system combining 'Disabled Taxi' and 'Pregnant Women Taxi' starting in April.
This system overhaul aims to increase the number of contracted taxis and provide incentives to drivers to improve dispatch success rates.
Transportation Vulnerable Taxi Integrated Operation
Busan City has been providing two types of call taxi services for transportation vulnerable individuals. First, the 'Disabled Taxi' introduced in 2012 was operated as a voucher taxi for severely disabled individuals. Second, in 2020, 'Pregnant Women Taxi (Mama Call)' was implemented for the first time in the nation as part of efforts to address the low birth rate.
Currently, the 'Disabled Taxi' has 750 personal taxis, and the 'Pregnant Women Taxi' has 2,100 Lighthouse Taxis operated through agreements. However, there have been issues of dispatch delays and inefficiencies due to these services being operated through different systems.
In order to resolve these issues and enhance the mobility convenience of both disabled individuals and pregnant women, Busan City has decided to integrate the two call taxi systems. It is expected that this will improve the quality of service.
Expansion of Contracted Taxis to 2,850 through Integrated Operation
By the end of March, Busan City plans to integrate multiple individual systems and sign a 'Transportation Vulnerable Call Taxi Integrated Operation Agreement' with contracted taxi groups. As a result, the 750 personal taxis and 2,100 Lighthouse Taxis will be linked together, operating a total of 2,850 transportation vulnerable call taxis.
This change is expected to significantly increase the number of available vehicles for dispatch, improving dispatch success rates and greatly reducing the existing issues of dispatch rejection. In particular, 'Pregnant Women Taxi' drivers will receive a call service fee of 500 won, similar to 'Disabled Taxi' drivers, encouraging them to operate the call taxis more actively.
This system integration is anticipated to provide better transportation options for vulnerable individuals.
Enhancing Kindness and Consideration Services to Resolve Dispatch Delays
Before the integrated operation begins, Busan City will hold a 'Transportation Vulnerable Kindness and Consideration Service Commitment Ceremony' and 'Taxi Kind Driver Training' from March 19 to 20. This is aimed at minimizing inconvenience to citizens.
After the integrated operation starts, the dispatch status and operation data will be thoroughly analyzed to review additional budget allocation and ongoing service improvement measures. Last year, the 'Disabled Voucher Call Taxi' operated an average of 2,900 times a day, while the 'Pregnant Women Voucher Call Taxi' operated 500 times, reflecting an increase of 16% and 106% respectively compared to the previous year.
Based on this, Busan City aims to further enhance the quality of service for transportation vulnerable individuals.
Transportation Vulnerable Call Taxi Integrated Call Center Operation
Busan City is currently operating two special transportation services, 'Duri Bal' and 'Transportation Vulnerable Call Taxi', through the Busan Facility Corporation. To enhance the work efficiency of these services, a call center integrating 'Special Transportation Means Duri Bal', 'Disabled Voucher Call Taxi', and 'Pregnant Women Voucher Call Taxi (Mama Call)' is currently in operation. The phone number for the call center is 1555-1114.
This 'Transportation Vulnerable Call Taxi Integrated Operation' is expected to not only enhance the mobility convenience of disabled individuals and pregnant women but also improve the efficiency of dispatch and optimize operations. Busan City plans to continue managing and improving the service so that more citizens can use the call taxi service without inconvenience.
