Jagalchi Ajimae Market Starts Operations at the End of June, Store Placement Lottery
Busan's Jagalchi Market is undergoing a transformation.
The city plans to officially open the 'Jagalchi Ajimae Market' at the end of June 2025, with a store placement lottery scheduled for mid-April.
This project aims to address the illegal street vendor issues in the Nampo-dong area, improve the road environment, and modernize the fish market.
Why is Jagalchi Ajimae Market Getting Attention?
The 'Jagalchi Ajimae Market' is designed to provide a safe and hygienic space for seafood sales targeted at illegal street vendors around Jagalchi Coastal Road.
This market serves as a key facility in the Jagalchi Seafood Landmark Creation Project, with a total budget of 23.5 billion won allocated for the completion of two buildings by 2024. It also has essential infrastructure such as cold storage, a promotional center, and office space.
The goal is to enhance food hygiene and safety through the creation of a complex space and strengthen connections with tourist resources. It particularly plans to grow into a representative seafood market of Busan alongside the nearby Jagalchi Modernization Market.
Store Placement Lottery Schedule and Application Method
A total of 216 individuals have been selected as store entrants, and a field lottery for store placements will take place from April 16 to 18, 2025, targeting those who completed pre-registration.
Pre-registration will be conducted as follows: The registration period is from April 7 (Monday) to April 11 (Friday), and the registration location is the consultation guide office located on the first floor of Building 2 of Jagalchi Ajimae Market.
The required documents for application include a copy of identification, a seal, a certificate of seal, and the on-site lottery participation application form and agreement (corporation format). If an agent applies, additional documents such as a power of attorney are necessary.
The on-site lottery will be conducted in the exhibition hall on the third floor of Jagalchi Modernization Market. Detailed information regarding the lottery method and other specifics will be provided in a briefing session held on March 31 at 4 PM in the Jagalchi auction hall conference room.
Concurrent Road Expansion Work
The Jung-gu Office is currently carrying out road expansion work near Jagalchi Market. This project has a total budget of 3.6 billion won, with plans to widen the road from the existing 10m to 20m. The length of the expansion reaches 323m, and all maintenance work is expected to be completed by 2025.
This road expansion is likely to improve the efficiency of traffic flow and positively impact the urban landscape of the Jagalchi area. Such changes will yield beneficial results for both local residents and visitors.
Operational Plans and Future Schedule
Busan's Jagalchi Ajimae Market is managed under the Busan Facility Corporation. The composition and organizational restructuring of the market operation team have been completed, with shared property usage permits expected to be provided to the merchants by the end of May.
Following this, interior work for each store will be completed by the end of June, followed by the formal opening. The corporation plans to create a pleasant environment for the market, leveraging its extensive experience in public facility management, aiming for it to emerge as a new attraction in Busan.
Jagalchi Commercial Area, Ready for a New Leap
The operation of the Jagalchi Ajimae Market goes beyond merely relocating street vendor positions; it can be seen as a comprehensive innovation project aimed at revitalizing the local economy, enhancing marine tourism content, and improving the urban landscape.
Busan City plans to continue implementing policies to enhance the competitiveness of the commercial area around Jagalchi.
New changes are beginning in the Jagalchi Market, representing Busan, and it is expected to further solidify its reputation.
