Ulsan City Supports Bicycle Insurance Enrollment for All Citizens – From Accident Coverage to Legal Support
Ulsan City has announced the implementation of the '2025 Bicycle Insurance Enrollment Support Project' to allow citizens to enjoy insurance benefits in the event of a bicycle accident.
Bicycle Insurance for Ulsan Citizens, Automatic Enrollment for Everyone!
The target audience includes Ulsan citizens and registered foreigners. Enrollment is done automatically without a separate application. The coverage period is one year from February 27, 2025, to February 26, 2026.
Coverage Details and Benefits
Ulsan City provides comprehensive insurance benefits for the safety of bicycle users. This includes accident compensation and legal support, creating a safer environment for bicycle users.
1. Coverage for Bicycle Accidents
The details of the insurance compensation are as follows.
In case of death, 30 million won will be paid, excluding those under 15 years old. For disability, up to 30 million won can be compensated for disabilities ranging from 3% to 100%.
The compensation for diagnosis and hospitalization is as follows. 300,000 won for diagnosis of 4 weeks (28 days) or more, 400,000 won for 5 weeks (35 days) or more, 500,000 won for 6 weeks (42 days) or more, 600,000 won for 7 weeks (49 days) or more, and 700,000 won for 8 weeks (56 days) or more.
Additionally, if hospitalization exceeds 7 days, an extra 200,000 won will be provided.
2. Legal Support and Liability Coverage
The fine coverage system supports up to 20 million won if a person is injured due to an accident. However, those under 14 years old are excluded.
Additionally, legal fees for attorney hiring are supported up to 2 million won, and traffic accident handling assistance is provided up to 30 million won if the victim dies or is seriously injured. These support systems greatly help in protecting the rights of accident victims.
Ulsan City's Bicycle Safety Policy
Since 2011, Ulsan City has introduced bicycle insurance to support citizens in using bicycles more safely.
Starting in 2015, Ulsan City has signed insurance contracts in an integrated manner, providing the same insurance services regardless of the district or county of residence.
Last year, a total of 775 bicycle accidents occurred in Ulsan, resulting in insurance payments of 600.205 million won.
This policy significantly contributes to encouraging citizens' use of bicycles.
Ulsan City Leads the Creation of Bicycle-Friendly Cities
A Ulsan City official stated, “I hope this provides practical help to citizens who face difficulties due to unexpected bicycle accidents.” He added, “We will do our best to make Ulsan a place where bicycle use is safer and more convenient.”
Ulsan City also announced plans to continue improving bicycle roads, conducting safety campaigns, and expanding infrastructure beyond the bicycle insurance support project. These efforts will contribute to creating a safe bicycle use environment for citizens.
