Daebong Bridge & Eomgung Bridge to commence in April, Jangnak Bridge in June... The future of transportation in Eco Delta City & Gangseo-gu
A large-scale road infrastructure project connecting Gangseo-gu, Sasang-gu, and Myeongji area in Busan is being initiated.
The long-delayed construction of Daebong Bridge and Eomgung Bridge is set to begin on April 1st, and Jangnak Bridge is also scheduled to commence construction in June.
All three bridges are planned to be completed and opened by 2030, expected to significantly improve the traffic environment in Eco Delta City and Gangseo area.
If this large-scale construction progresses as scheduled and can be opened simultaneously, it would be very positive. However, large-scale projects often face delays due to unforeseen circumstances, so it is advisable to consider a buffer time of around 2-3 years.
Daebong Bridge, a key arterial road connecting 8.24km between Gangseo and Sasang
Daebong Bridge is a bridge that connects Sikman-dong in Gangseo-gu to Samrak-dong in Sasang-gu, with a total length of 8.24km and designed for 4 lanes in both directions.
This project is planned to start construction in 2025 and be completed by August 2030.
The total project cost is estimated at approximately 395.6 billion won, which is expected to reduce traffic congestion in the urban area and significantly enhance accessibility between Sasang Industrial Complex and Eco Delta City.
This project has faced several delays since it was designated as a congested road in the metropolitan area in 2006, due to multiple environmental impact assessments and national heritage issues. However, last year, relevant reviews were completed, making it possible to proceed in earnest.
Eomgung Bridge, a central connection axis of Eco Delta City…Improving access to Sasang and Eomgung
Eomgung Bridge is a 3km long bridge connecting Daeejeong-dong in Gangseo-gu's Eco Delta City to Seunghak Tunnel in Sasang-gu. This bridge is designed for 6 lanes in both directions with a width of 30m. The total project cost is 345.5 billion won, and completion is planned for June 2030.
This bridge is a crucial infrastructure connecting Eco Delta City and the main industrial areas in western Busan, expected to facilitate efficient logistics movement and reduce travel times for residents. In particular, as a new connection axis crossing the Nakdong River, it will play an important role in completing the metropolitan road network in western Busan.
The Seunghak Tunnel currently connected to Eomgung Bridge was planned to start construction in the second half of 2024, but construction has not yet begun.
Currently, this project is undergoing permit procedures such as disaster impact assessment for private investment, review of construction costs, and consultation on underground safety assessment reports.
Therefore, construction is expected to commence in the latter half of 2025 at the earliest.
Jangnak Bridge, a vital traffic axis connecting Myeongji and Saenggok-dong…Commencing in June
Jangnak Bridge is a bridge connecting Eco Delta City and Saenggok-dong, measuring 1.53km in length and designed for 6 lanes. The total cost of this project is approximately 132.9 billion won, with construction scheduled to begin in June 2025 and a target completion date of August 2030.
Jangnak Bridge plays a crucial role in forming the essential roadway network between Myeongji International New Town and Eco Delta City. Previously, its progress was delayed due to environmental impact assessments and national heritage issues, but recently all permit procedures have been completed, confirming the commencement of construction.
Expectations for traffic system improvement and regional balanced development
The ongoing large-scale bridge construction goes beyond mere road expansion.
It will be a critical opportunity to integrate the urban functions of western Busan and achieve balanced development.
Furthermore, it is expected to act as a significant turning point that energizes the new city and industrial complex.
I have previously made a separate post regarding traffic issues in Eco Delta City. This area is closely related to green smart city development, and the bridges are not just for passage. They will play an important role as future-oriented urban transportation infrastructure.
Conclusion
Daebong Bridge, Eomgung Bridge, and Jangnak Bridge are vital transportation networks connecting Gangseo-gu, Sasang-gu, and Eco Delta City in Busan, playing an important role in the region's balanced development. Overcoming a long period of preparation and delays, construction is expected to commence in earnest in the first half of 2025.
This will bring significant changes to the transportation situation in western Busan.
Once completed in 2030, this area is expected to grow into a transportation hub for logistics, residential, and industrial harmony in western Busan.
