Announcement of the Public Hearing for the Second Urban Railway Network Construction Plan
Busan Metropolitan City announced that it will hold a public hearing to collect opinions on the 'Second Urban Railway Network Construction Plan' based on Article 5 of the Urban Railway Law on May 8. The event will allow participation from citizens and experts, and will take place from 2 PM to 4 PM in the conference room on the 1st floor of Busan City Hall. Approximately 100 seats will be available.
This public hearing will disclose the review results and plan for 10 major routes, including BuTX, Busan Port Line, Jeonggwan Line, Songdo Line, Gangseo Line, Osiria Line. These routes are expected to play a significant role in the future development of Busan as important transport infrastructures connecting Gadukdo New Airport, North Port redevelopment, and urban tourism hubs.
One of the noteworthy transport projects is BuTX (Busan Urban Transit Express). This line connects Gadukdo New Airport and Osiria, and spans a total length of 54.04 km. It is being pursued as a private investment project, with construction expected to begin in 2025 and operations slated to commence in 2030.
BuTX will become an important transport network that quickly connects major areas such as Ulsan, Beomeosa, and Centum in line with the opening of Gadukdo New Airport. This line is expected to establish a 60-minute living zone in the southeastern region and serve as a foundation for the development of a metropolitan mega city.
The Busan Port Line (Taejongdae ~ Kyungsung University Busan National University) is the second noteworthy line. This line is planned to operate as a circular tram, integrating the existing Oryukdo Line, C-Bay Park Line, and Yeongdo Line.
In particular, the introduction of eco-friendly hydrogen trams and operations along the coastline without overhead lines are planned. This approach is expected to satisfy tourism demand while enhancing accessibility to the city center, thereby significantly contributing to the revitalization of the old town.
Several new lines connecting Busan's suburban new towns and the city center are being planned. The Jeonggwan Line is set to connect to Yansan and Ulsan railway networks, addressing commuter demand in East Busan.
Additionally, the Gijang Line is planned to extend Line 4 to Ilgwang New Town. The Gangseo Line, which passes through the second Eco Delta City, is currently in the process of commercialization in consultation with Daegu Metropolitan City.
